Jeep Wrangler TJ and YJ are the initials for Wrangler models. As per the official information disclosed by Jeep, TJ and YJ don’t essentially mean anything, though many of the Jeep fans strongly believe that TJ stands for “tough Jeep”, YJ for “yuppie Jeep”, CJ for “Civilian Jeep” so on and so forth.
Overview
The Jeep Wrangler TJ was in production during 1997-2005, and all these Wrangler TJ models classified to be separate from the usual Wrangler models. Some of the experts and critics believe that it was just a vague attempt to diversify Wrangler line-up, while others consider that TJ was marketed with the intention of creating another label for Wrangler and discontinuing the Wrangler later (though which did not turn out to be the case, as the Wrangler label is still very much alive).
Difference between Jeep Wrangler TJ and YJ
With the launch of Jeep Wrangler TJ, the round headlights were introduced back once again, while the Dana 44 rear end lights were available optionally as well. The TJ had a cushy interior and safety airbags, which were missing on the YJ models. However, both TJ and YJ models had round headlights and most of the standard features remained common in both the models.
